The Predator is tool that HEMI car owners should have in their toolbox! The Predator 2 will let you adjust cooling fan on/off temps, axle ratio settings, re-calibrate your speedometer for larger aftermarket tires, and tons more. The new Predator adds high performance tuning and improves your cars shifting and overall performance. The Predator 2 picks up where the original Predator left off but offers new creature comforts like a color screen, USB updates, and more. In fact, most people with a HEMI car that have done any type of performance upgrade have probably had a Predator in their glove box. It offered unsurpassed performance and options for HEMI engines and quickly became the industry standard for tuners in the Chrysler world. The Predator U7135 was the first handheld programmer ever made for Dodge Challengers, Chargers, and 300s. What is it you are hoping to get in return for this mod?The All New Diablosport Predator 2 Is Here But the whole DiabloSport vs HP Tuners debate has been had before, and is still going on, so I won’t derail this thread by wading into it now. None of that addresses the shortcomings of the particular brand of tuner you purchased, and there are many, to be fair. Those folks will get their money’s worth from this mod. Other folks don’t mind turning a 3 hour road trip out of town into a 5 hour road trip out of town due to the constant stopping and reloading of a tune with some minor change they just made in response to a WOT run down the interstate (and subsequent datalog review). If you are one of those folks, I’d say this mod is a mistake, both in terms of what it will provide in performance increases and how much it costs to do it. Sone folks would rather use the tuner to load a hotter tune, throw the thing in the glovebox, and never touch it again. That position softens when you add in the extra cost of the PCM swap, but if the economy of the mod is not prohibitive, my position is the same. I’ve always been of the opinion that the handheld tuner device is a very useful tool in the dedicated gearhead’s toolbox and should be obtained if at all possible. The handheld tuner is invaluable for that task.Įven smaller mods that won’t significantly affect the power output of the engine can benefit from using a handheld tuner to datalog their affects on engine operation at WOT and make small adjustments as necessary to help make sure those mods’ contributions to the engine’s operation is a net positive (as opposed to nothing or a net loss of peak HP). That requires the ability to record the data the engine puts out while running, aka datalogging. With the tuner, you can have that done over email and load it yourself.Īny time spent at the track or drag strip will be better served if you can see what is happening with the engine during each run/pass, and then make any adjustments necessary (or have them made by someone else) in anticipation of the next event. Without the handheld tuner, you’ll have to find a dyno tune shop to make and mod that modified tune once the upgrade is done. Given all that, is it even still possible to say this is a mod you should do? Yes, there are scenarios in which you could realize some real value to this mod.Īny major volumetric efficiency change the engine sees due to a mod, like a camshaft upgrade, will require a modified tune to be used to tell the engine how to operate with the new equipment. If you never plan on going to the track to compete in trials of timed runs (down a strip or around a track), the DS handheld tuner & PCM swap isn’t a very cost effective performance mod. If you don’t plan on ever adding anything that will require engine parts to be removed/replaced, the DS handheld tuner & PCM swap is overkill in terms of a standalone mod. What future performance mods do you plan on doing to the car? How do you plan on using the car, daily driver, weekend track warrior, etc. If you look at the DS tuner device as a magical black box that can dial up HP increases and allow you to make any change you want to the engine’s operating parameters, you are probably going to be disappointed. If you expect an instant power increase that’s felt across the entire RPM range, and no other effort or time investment required, you are probably going to be disappointed with the results of this mod given the money paid for it.
